Open to just 20 incoming students each fall, the Stewart Science Honors Program is a highly selective and academically rigorous interdisciplinary program guided by research and technology. Stewart Scholars are members of a collaborative community in which they work alongside Biola’s exceptional STEM faculty to produce original research. Through these unique mentor relationships, Stewart aims to produce innovative Christian leaders in the sciences.

Customized Learning

Become a competent, articulate leader in STEM fields as ambassadors for Christ.

  • Learn through an integrated and innovative curriculum. Take part in honors-level STEM courses tailored for high-achieving students while also engaging with the biblically centered curriculum distinctive of a Biola education. 
  • Receive mentorship from remarkable faculty. Trained at some of the top academic institutions in the world, including Stanford, Caltech and Yale, Biola faculty members are active leaders in their respective fields and are passionate about innovative STEM teaching, mentorship and research.
  • Expand your knowledge of computing and technology. Stewart Honors offers intensive computer science and data structures courses that equip you with practical working knowledge of coding in multiple computer languages that are critical to monumental advancements in STEM fields.

Guided Undergraduate Research

Your Stewart Honors coursework includes developing your very own research project, which is proposed and pursued in close collaboration with a faculty member. You'll get an inside look into experimental design while using cutting-edge laboratory equipment and techniques at the Lim Center.

Angela Nicholson Shaw

Student Spotlight

Earning competitive internships at MIT and Caltech was just the start for Stewart scholar Angela Nicholson. Angela pursued her Ph.D. at the University of California, San Diego, where she studied the contribution of messenger RNAs and microRNAs to gene regulation. In recognition for her excellence, the National Science Foundation awarded her research the prestigious Graduate Research Fellowship. After completing her PhD, Angela was hired as a Scientist at Biotech firm Illumina.


Generous Scholarships

  • Receive $6,000 of additional aid
