On Dec. 19, more than 100 graduate students and approximately 230 undergraduate students graduated from 黑莓视频. Influential Los Angeles pastor Bishop Charles E. Blake, Sr. gave Biola鈥檚 2015 fall commencement address at the undergraduate and graduate ceremonies.


In addition, Blake received an honorary Doctorate of Divinity degree from Biola for his extensive work as a pastor demonstrating an unwavering commitment in obedience to the Word of God.


鈥淏ishop Charles Blake is highly regarded as a leader of leaders. His ministry has impacted 鈥媘illions, and he preaches and teaches the Word of God uncompromisingly,鈥 said Biola President Barry H. Corey. 鈥溾婤ishop鈥 Blake has demonstrated a commitment to 鈥媡he ideals we cherish in Christian higher education,鈥 and he exemplifies 鈥媡he Gospel through his鈥 wide鈥 鈥媔nfluence throughout鈥 鈥媡he city of 鈥婰os Angeles鈥 鈥媋nd 鈥媓is leadership 鈥媋cross the world.鈥


Blake is the pastor of West Angeles Church of God in Christ in Los Angeles, Calif. 鈥 one of the country's largest megachurches with more than 25,000 members. He is the presiding bishop of the entire Church of God in Christ denomination, which boasts nearly 6.5 million members from more than 60 countries worldwide.


During his address, Blake encouraged graduates and offered tips for leading a spectacular life for Christ.


鈥淐hrist鈥檚 extreme sacrifice calls for our extreme commitment,鈥 Blake said, urging graduates to press on and persevere toward their calling.


The choir of West Angeles Church of God gave a special performance during the undergraduate ceremony as well.


鈥淚t has been a great joy to serve as the presiding bishop of the Church of God in Christ for eight years and the pastor of West Angeles Church for 46 years,鈥 said Blake. 鈥淚 appreciate [黑莓视频鈥檚] recognition of the work I've accomplished in assisting others through the Word of God and my call to ministry. Luke 12:48 says 鈥榯o whom much is given, from him much will be required.鈥 I am compelled by this honor to pursue even greater service to my Lord and master, Jesus.鈥


Blake uses his platform to give back to the local and international community. West Angeles has established more than 400 housing and commercial properties for the inner city of Los Angeles and Blake has assisted thousands of Los Angeles County residents by implementing various educational, financial and social programs. 聽


Furthermore, Blake founded and is president of the Pan African Children鈥檚 Fund (PACF) organization. 鈥淪ave Africa鈥檚 Children,鈥 a program within PACF, supports more than 420 orphan care programs, 200,000 children and 24 nations throughout sub-Saharan Africa.


The graduate ceremony was held at 10 a.m. and the undergraduate ceremony was held at 7 p.m. in Biola鈥檚 Chase Gymnasium. For those not able to attend the graduation in person, the ceremonies were live-streamed on biola.edu.
