Lata Mangeshkar (born as Hema Mangeshkar) was born in a Maharashtrian Brahmin family in 28 September 1929, the eldest daughter of Deenanath Mangeshkar and Shevanti in Madhya Pradesh. Her father, Deenanath Mangeshkar, was a classical singer and theatre actor. she is also known as Queen of Melody, Nightingale of India, Voice of the Millennium. #Lata Mangeshkar has had an illustrious career in various roles, better at some than others. A God-gifted voice led her to become the most successful and celebrated female playback singer from the 1940s till 1980s. Starting from Vaijayantimala till Preity Zinta, she has lent her voice to all leading ladies of Bollywood. Her songs had touched the hearts of millions throughout the years and across borders. She also did some acting at the start of her career. Her attempts as a music director were not as successful as her singing career. Her first Hindi song was Mata Ek Sapoot Ki Duniya Badal De Tu for the Marathi film, Gajaabhaau (1943). Lata moved to Mumbai in 1945 when Master Vinayak’s company moved its headquarters there. She started taking lessons in Hindustani classical music from Ustad Amanat Ali Khan Bhendibazaarwale.“Aayega Aanewaala,” a song in the popular movie Mahal (1949) proved a turning point for her. The song was composed by music director Khemchand Prakash and lip-synced on screen by actress Madhubala. In the 1950s, Lata sang songs composed by various acclaimed music directors of the period, including Anil Biswas, Shankar-Jaikishan, Naushad, S.D. Burman, C. Ramchandra, Hemant Kumar, Salil Chowdhury, Khayyam, Ravi, Sajjad Hussain, Roshan, Kalyanji-Anandji, Vasant Desai, Sudhir Phadke, Hansraj Behl, Madan Mohan and Usha Khanna. Acclaimed music director O.P. Nayyar was an exception who favoured Lata’s sister Asha Bhosle as the singer of many of his compositions.
Mangeshkar won several awards and honours Padma Bhushan (1969), adma Vibhushan (1999), adasaheb Phalke Award (1989), Maharashtra Bhushan Award (1997), NTR National Award (1999), Bharat Ratna (2001), Legion of Honour (2007), ANR National Award (2009), Officer of the National Order of the Legion of Honour (2006), three National Film Awards and 15 Bengal Film Journalists’ Association Awards.

After Rafi’s death, in its 1984 edition, the Guinness Book of World Records stated her name for the ‘Most Recordings’, but also stated Rafi’s claim. The later editions of Guinness Book stated that she had sung no fewer than 30,000 songs between 1948 and 1987. Total number of songs (approx) 50,000 in 36 languages. She died on 6 February 2022 at 8:12 a.m., aged 93, from Multiple Organ Dysfunction Syndrome after undergoing 28 days of constant treatment for Pneumonia and COVID-19. The central government has decided to observe two days of national mourning in the memory of Lata Mangeshkar. Similar announcements have been made by state governments of Maharashtra, Goa, West Bengal and Jharkhand.Lata Mangeshkar, who was known as the Nightingale of India, breathed her last today. Celebrities including Deepika Padukone, Priyanka Chopra, Akshay Kumar, Abhishek Bachchan, among others, took to social media to pay tribute. Many celebrities, including Amitabh Bachchan, Shweta Bachchan and Shraddha Kapoor visited her house to pay last respects.lata Mangeshkar’s mortal remains were shifted from her Peddar Road residence to Shivaji Park in Mumbai, where she was cremated. Her final rites were performed with full state honours in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Shah Rukh Khan, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, Deputy CM Ajit Pawar and NCP chief Sharad Pawar, among others.
