Joshua Brake
Josh Brake loves teaching and college students. During his second semester as an undergrad at LeTourneau University he stumbled into an opportunity to teach circuits as a teaching assistant. He's been hooked ever since. After finishing up two Engineering degrees at LeTourneau, he married his childhood sweetheart and moved to Southern California where he completed his PhD in Electrical Engineering at the California Institute of Technology. During his time there he worked on building optical tools to see deeper into tissue with light. After finishing up at Caltech, he joined the faculty at Harvey Mudd College where he spends his days working alongside students to help them learn the skills they need to build robots, design circuits, and work on teams. He loves working at Harvey Mudd because in addition to these technical topics, he also gets to think together with students and colleagues to understand the impact of their work on society. When he's not hanging out on campus, you'll most likely find him at home with his wife and their three young children. After the kids are in bed—and especially on Monday nights—you'll find him at the kitchen table hammering out the latest essay for his Substack newsletter, *The Absent-Minded Professor*. If you're interested in keeping up with his musings on technology, education, and the good life you can check out the archive and subscribe to get them delivered to your inbox every Tuesday morning at joshbrake.substack.com.
