In 2 Corinthians 5, Paul encourages the church by describing how in death we will put off our earthly bodies and put on heavenly bodies. He's drawing us back in this image both to the Tabernacle and the Garden of Eden. In this message we will explore how these Old Testament stories help us find the balance between affirming the goodness of our present embodied life and still longing for our eternal home.

Speakers

Janelle Aijian

Janelle Aijian grew up in Canada (mostly), though she's also lived in Kenya and Texas. She first came to Biola as a student in 2003, where she tried out majoring in Biblical Studies and Political Science before landing on Philosophy. She got her PhD in Philosophy from Baylor university, where she pursued a question that's always fascinated and troubled her: How should we think about humans having knowledge of God? She's still interested in that question, and in experiences of doubt in a Christian's life, but she's also studying the idea of acedia, which is what's happening when we avoid or distract ourselves from God's good, difficult calling. She lives in La Mirada with her husband Phillip and two kids, Malcolm and Evelyn.
